There's a certain sense of confusion in some European and Asian capitals right now about the fact that the current US administration, with a remarkable persistence that's worthy of a much nobler cause, keeps insisting on deposing Assad in Syria - what's more, they want to do it before the terrorist groups there have been eliminated.
